Plums are one of my favorite summer fruits, and each year I am pleasantly surprised to discover more and more plum (and plum-like!) fruits: from plums to pluots (75% plum/25% apricot), apriums (25% plum/75% apricot), and plumcots (yet another plum/apricot hybrid), purple, red, yellow and even green-skinned varietals, not to mention the various shades of juicy, sweet, and tart flesh inside! As is true for the prunes that they will become if dried, plums are a great source of fiber, along with Vitamins A, K and C.
Regardless of the varietal, they are wonderful ingredients in everything from dessert treats such as pies, tarts, and galettes to more savory combinations, particularly those with an Asian twist. Below are a few of my favorite summer Asian dinner recipes:
- Thai Shrimp & Pluots on Lemongrass Skewers
- Grilled Black Cod, Plum, and Jasmine Brown Rice Packets
- Asian Summer Salad with Sesame-Shallot Vinaigrette
